About Pack 4

Pack 4 is chartered through The Kessler School in Dallas, Texas. We typically meet at Kessler Park United Methodist Church. Pack 4 is a member of the Soaring Eagle District, Circle 10 Council, and the Scouts BSA, which boys and girls will graduate cross-over to during their fifth-grade year. Neither scouts nor their parents need to be members of any specific church or attend a certain school to join Pack 4; we are open to everyone who shares the ideals of Cub Scouting.

Youth Protection

Every scout deserves a trained leader. Boy Scouts of America believes this and so does Pack 4. The pack has a training coordinator to oversee that all adults are up-to-date on their training. Every adult leader in Pack 4 undergoes position-specific training from the Soaring District. Some adults also complete additional Cub Scout training in things such as camping, swimming, and first aid. In addition to leader-specific Cub Scout training, including background checks.

The Boy Scouts of America has adopted a number of policies aimed at eliminating opportunities for abuse within the Scouting program. Some of these policies include two-deep leadership, no one-on-one contact, respect of privacy, and prohibiting hazing.

Meetings

Pack meetings and Den meetings are held every month beginning in September and running through May. Unless otherwise specified, all meetings are hosted at the Scout Hut at Kessler Park United Methodist Chruch, providing us with tables, chairs, restrooms, and other amenities.

Den meetings are usually held 2-3 times per month and last about one hour. Dens determine the best day, time, and location to meet.

Pack Meetings are usually held once per month at 6:00pm on the first Thursday of every month and include award ceremonies, rank advancements, den demonstrations, news and announcements, and/or other activities.

Joint Committee Meetings are a chance for parents and leaders alike to view the high-level decision-making for Pack 4 and Troop 5 with which the committee is shared. These meetings happen on the 2nd Tuesday of every month and are held in person with a video conferencing option.

Cost

Pack 4 knows activities for your children can be expensive. That’s why we try to keep costs low for all families. The pack pays for all awards, patches, and recognition the boys earn. Minimal costs occur throughout the year and for summer activities. At this time, we do not charge den dues.

Annual Pack dues for the Scout are $50, and registration fees with BSA is $115 which includes 12 issues of Boy’s Life Magazine. If the Scout does not want Boy’s Life Magazine, the registration fee is $100.

We highly encourage parents to join and play a role within the Pack Committee or another leadership position. A pack leadership and committee member’s annual dues are paid for by the committee.

Class A Uniforms (the blue or tan uniform, depending on grade) may be purchased at the Scout Shop in Fairview or online. First year cost is approximately $65 (shirt, required patches, neckerchief, neckerchief slide and handbook) and $20 each additional year (new year’s handbook, neckerchief and neckerchief slide). A pack t-shirt (class B uniform) is offered for purchase each year at $15 each. Additional official BSA uniform items (pants/shorts, hat, socks, etc.) may be purchased at the parent’s discretion.

See here for a detailed break-down of what scouts need by year/rank of scouting.
